Zlatyu Boyadzhiev


Zlatyu Georgiev Boyadzhiev (October 22, 1903 – February 2, 1976) was a Bulgarian artist, known for his portraits and landscapes, considered one of the most original artists of the 20th century. Born in the village of Brezovo, Boyadzhiev studied painting at the Sofia Academy of Arts under Professor Tseno Todorov and was part of the "Baratsite" group. His work has two periods: before 1951 - neoclassical scenes of rural life; after the stroke - expressive, grotesque compositions with many figures and bright colors, painted with his left hand. Among his famous works are "The Village of Brezovo", "At the Table", "Two Weddings" and "Portrait of My Mother". He is the recipient of awards such as "People's Artist", "Hero of Socialist Labor" and the "Vladimir Dimitrov - The Master" award. His works are in house museums in Plovdiv and Blagoevgrad, as well as in the National Gallery.
