Vasil Zahariev


Vasil Zahariev graduated from the Art and Industrial School in 1919 with a degree in decorative art and graphics. He specialized in Leipzig (1922–1924). He taught graphics at the National Academy of Fine Arts (1924–1945), where he was a professor and rector (1934–1943). He worked at the Institute of Fine Arts at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences since 1959. He initiated the protection of national monuments and contributed to museum work in Samokov.

His work includes applied graphics - illustrations, postage stamps, banknotes, bookplates. The first Bulgarian artist to exhibit at an international library exhibition (1929). Author of lithographs and engravings owned by Bulgarian and foreign galleries. Published a number of studies on Bulgarian art and iconography.
