Stoyan Vassilev
Stoyan Vassilev (April 16, 1904, Pazardzhik – March 23, 1977, Sofia) was a Bulgarian artist and painter, known as a master of landscape. He graduated in painting from the Academy of Arts in Sofia under Professor Tseno Todorov (1927). He worked mainly in the field of landscape – urban, mountain and tropical scenes, preferring motifs from Veliko Tarnovo.
He teaches painting as a teacher and long-time lecturer at the University of St. Cyril and Methodius in Tarnovo. He initiated cultural and artistic organizations, including the Cultural and Educational Society "Native Art" and an independent art collection in Pazardzhik.
Stoyan Vassilev has had 32 solo exhibitions in Bulgaria and several in Germany, participated in the Bulgarian Art Museum and international exhibitions. He works in oil, watercolor and pastel, creating over 2,750 paintings and preserving a rich archive of books, albums and manuscripts.
He was awarded the Order of Cyril and Methodius, 2nd degree. His works are kept in the Stanislav Dospevski Art Gallery - Pazardzhik, as well as in museums and private collections in Bulgaria and abroad.
