Stanyo Stamatov


Stanyo Petrov Stamatov is a Bulgarian painter, who worked mainly in the field of figurative composition and landscape. He painted everyday scenes from rural life, paintings with military themes, urban and natural landscapes, portraits. His watercolors, as well as his oil paintings, have high artistic and historical value.
Stanyu Petrov Stamatov was born in the village of Shipka, Kazanlak region, into a family of teachers, Macedonian Bulgarians. He is the younger brother of the artist Dechko Stamatov.

In 1911 he graduated from the Drawing School in Sofia in the class of Ivan Mrkvichka. He studied and specialized in painting first in Germany (1925 – 1927), and then in France.

He participated in the Balkan War and the First World War as a war artist.

He works as a drawing teacher in Kazanlak.
Stanyo Stamatov left a rich and numerous artistic legacy. He was a very productive artist. He regularly participated in the General Art Exhibitions in the 1930s and until the mid-1940s. He had over 40 solo exhibitions. His works are in the National Art Gallery in Sofia, the Sofia City Art Gallery, the art galleries in Stara Zagora, Kazanlak and others.
