Naiden Petkov
Nayden Petkov was born on May 16, 1918 in the village of Djurovo, Sofia Region. He opened his first exhibition of watercolors as a student at the First Boys' High School in Sofia. He graduated in painting at the Academy of Arts under Professor Nikola Ganushev. He won his first award with the painting "The Battle of Nis" (1946) - from the Ministry of Defense.
He was the production designer of the feature films “Uneasy Path” (1955), “The Gerats” (1958), “The Irreconcilables” (1964). He works in the field of figurative composition, portraiture, landscape, creates drawings with chalk and charcoal, monotypes. He was the rector of the Academy of Arts (1985 – 1987). He was posthumously awarded the title of honorary doctor of the academy.
He participates in general art exhibitions in Bulgaria, in many international exhibitions abroad – in Europe, Russia, Mexico, in the biennials in Lugano, Ljubljana and Venice. He also has solo exhibitions abroad – in Algeria, Tunisia, Berlin.
Works by Nayden Petkov are owned by the National Art Gallery, the Sofia City Art Gallery, galleries in Burgas, Plovdiv, Varna, etc., as well as private collections in our country and abroad.
He was awarded many times for his work. He died in 1989.
