Kolyo Karamfilov
Kolyo Karamfilov (Nikolay Iliev Karamfilov, December 7, 1963 – January 12, 2014) was a Bulgarian artist, graphic artist, sculptor and scenographer, who also worked in performance, art installations, photography and interior design. He graduated in scenography in Plovdiv (1982) and became a member of the Union of Bulgarian Artists. In 1989 he created the avant-garde group "Rub", and later - "Disco 95" and the "Mercy" project. In 2008 he opened the UPARK gallery in Plovdiv.
He has held over 30 solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group shows in Bulgaria and abroad; his works are in private collections. He works as a set designer and film artist, directing the short film "Casablanca", winner of the Jameson Award for Sofia Film Festival 2014.
Awards: bronze medal from the III International Triennial – Varna (1987), award at the VIII Youth Exhibition (1989), "Grand Prix" at the First International Triennial of Graphics – Sofia (1995), "Cité des Arts" scholarship – Paris (1997) and "Plovdiv" Art Award (2004).
A street in Sofia is named after Karamfilov.
