Josef Peter


Josef (Josef) Pieter (1881–1925) was a Czech artist who worked in Bulgaria. He was born in Kostelec nad Černý Lesí, studied art in Prague and worked as a lithographer. From 1909 to 1921 he taught graphic arts in Sofia, where he painted landscapes and the local population, published an album of lithographs and introduced the etching technique. Among his students were famous Bulgarian artists. After returning to Czechoslovakia in 1921, he worked in Smíchov and died in 1925. He was married to Emma Hradská, with whom he had two children.
