Yoan Leviev
He was born on October 31, 1934 in Plovdiv to a Jewish family. In 1958, he graduated from the Academy of Arts with a degree in monumental and decorative painting in the class of Prof. Georgi Bogdanov.
He works in the field of mural arts – monumental and decorative murals, sgraffito and mosaic, scenography, easel painting and illustration.
Since 1960 he has been regularly participating in the Plovdiv district exhibitions, in the youth biennials in Paris (1961, 1963), Szczecin (1965), in the general art exhibitions of the Union of Bulgarian Artists and in representative exhibitions of Bulgarian fine art abroad. From 1970 onwards he has organized numerous solo exhibitions in Plovdiv, Sofia, Varna, Warsaw, Prague, Los Angeles.
Leviev was a member of the innovative Plovdiv school of the 1960s - a group that also included Encho Pironkov, Georgi Bozhilov, Dimitar Kirov, Kolyu Vitkovski and Hristo Stefanov, known as the April Generation.
He died on March 11, 1994.
