Ivan Hristov


Ivan Kanchev Hristov (1900 – 1980) was a Bulgarian artist and teacher, born in Vidin. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts (1925) and specialized in painting in Munich, where he had his first solo exhibition. He worked as a drawing teacher in Tryavna and Plovdiv, creating a museum collection that became the basis of the Museum of Woodcarving and Iconography. He painted landscapes from all over Bulgaria and became a freelance artist in 1945. During his life, he had over 50 solo exhibitions in Bulgaria and abroad and participated in all national exhibitions of the Union of Bulgarian Artists. His works are in the National Art Gallery, the Sofia Art Gallery, the Louvre, the Hermitage, museums and galleries in Europe, Asia and America, as well as in state institutions and private collections.
