Dimitar Kirov - DiKiro

Dimitar Kirov, also known as DiKiro, was born on May 20, 1935 in Istanbul, Turkey. He graduated in 1959 from the Academy of Fine Arts in Sofia, under Professor G. Bogdanov. Quite naturally, his painting is associated with the significant representatives of the Plovdiv School of the 1960s, such as Georgi Bozhilov, Encho Pironkov, and Yoan Leviev. According to critics, this period is saturated with innovation and highly contested ideas in Bulgarian fine arts. Several cycles can be distinguished in DiKiro's work, with burnt icons, music, and ballet being particularly expressive, as well as the insertion of historical and cultural layers and prominent personalities. Some of the artist's best canvases also feature his favorite cities - Plovdiv, Istanbul, and Paris. He has been honored with dozens of national and international awards.
He died in 2008.
