Asen Nikolov - Shopa
Assen NIKOLOV – SHOPA is a Bulgarian artist, painter.
Assen NIKOLOV is nicknamed Shopa because of his pictorial compositions, in which he successfully recreates the atmosphere of the Shopan lifestyle of the 30s and 40s. He paints landscapes, still lifes, portraits in a realistic style. He builds the images of workers, both in the city and in the village. His works are reminiscent of the stories of Elin Pelin.
He was born on July 16, 1910. in the village of Slatina (today a district of Sofia). He died on October 16, 1973 in Sofia. From 1928 to 1933 he studied Painting as a private student at the Academy of Arts, Sofia, under Prof. Tseno Todorov and Prof. Nikola Marinov. He worked as an artist in the cinema "Macedonia" and other cinemas in the capital.
He participated in the Art Gallery and in collective exhibitions, and held several solo exhibitions in Sofia (1946, 1948, 1949).
